The St Mary’s Cardinal cross country team is coming off a very successful 2025 season. The Cardinals boys team won the DVC championship. The girls team won the region meet and finished eighth at state as a team. St Mary’s had a total of six runners qualify for state last season.
This year the girls team doesn’t have any seniors, but sophomore Paige Deuter has stepped into a leadership role and will help the younger girls compete well. For the boys’ team, seniors Matthew Heinemann, Kade Lutt, and Seth Eining will lead the team.
“I’m excited for this season. The girls team lost two of our four runners from last year, but those two that are remaining will be excellent runners, and I feel they have a good chance at placing high in our big meets at the end of the year. Our boys team missed out on state last year, so they’ve got a level of determination to try and qualify this year. We are returning everyone from last year’s team plus a few new additional runners to help push each other to perform our best in competition,” said head coach Mitchell Roemen.
