Cardinal Girls Overcome Slow Start for Win in Hurley

The St Mary Cardinal girls were able to navigate a slow start and earned a 49-35 road win against the Viborg-Hurley Cougars on Monday, February 2nd.

Both offenses got off to slow starts in the first two quarters.  The Cardinals held an 8-7 lead after the end of the first quarter.  Both teams scored just five points each in the second quarter, and St Mary led 13-12 at halftime.  The offenses had a much better third quarter.  St Mary’s outscored Viborg-Hurley 17-12 and took a 30-24 lead into the fourth quarter.  The Cardinals had their best quarter in the fourth quarter and slowly pulled away for the win.

St Mary’s shot 31% (16-52) overall in the game, 13% (3-23) on three-point shots, and 74% (14-19) from the free-throw line.  Viborg-Hurley finished the game shooting 33% (12-36) overall, 24% (4-17) from three-point area, and 70% (7-10) from the free-throw line.

Maddyn LeBrun had 18 points and five rebounds.  Stephenie Geraets added eight points, six steals, five rebounds, and three assists.  Lalya Joe Hanson had seven points, five rebounds, and five steals.  Haper Werdel had six points and six rebounds.  Madelyn Klein also had six points with three rebounds.
