St Mary Boys Hold off Colman-Egan for Road Win

The St Mary’s Cardinal boys basketball team traveled to Colman for a DVC match-up against the Colman-Egan Hawks on Friday, December 19th.  The Cardinals were able to pull away late in the fourth quarter for a 65-55 victory.

The Hawks got out to an 8-3 lead with 5:40 to go in the opening quarter.  St Mary’s cut the lead down to one, 13-12, by the end of the quarter.  The run for the Cardinals continued into the second quarter.  They scored the first seven points to take a 19-13 lead with 6:30 to play in the half.  St Mary’s ended the first half with a 33-27 lead.

The Cardinals started hot in the third quarter as well scoring the first six points to extend their lead to 39-27 with 5:30 to play in the quarter.  St Mary’s was able to maintain about a 10-point lead in the quarter.  They led 47-38 going into the fourth quarter.  Colman-Egan battled back in the fourth quarter.  The Hawks cut the lead to 50-47 with 4:30 to play in the game.  The Cardinals were able to hold off the rally and finish the game with a 15-8 scoring advantage for the win.

St Mary’s shot 51% (20-39) overall in the game, 62% (8-13) from three-point area, and 81% (17-21) from the free-throw line.  Colman-Egan finished the game shooting 43% (23-53) overall, 26% (5-19) from three-point area, and 4-7 from the free-throw line.

Trimmier Hanson had 24 points.  Peyton Lamb was right behind with 23 points.  Joseph Trumbauer had nine points.
