Second and Fourth Quarters Key to Bulldog Win over Cardinal Boys

The De Smet Bulldogs had two big quarters, the second and fourth, to help them to a 59-48 win over the St Mary Cardinals in Dell Rapids on Monday, December 22nd.

The Cardinals got out to a fast start and led 9-1 early in the game.  St Mary’s kept the lead throughout the first quarter and led 13-7 going into the second quarter.  De Smet had their first 20-point quarter in the second.  They used that to lead them to a 27-19 lead at halftime.

St Mary’s tried to cut into the lead in the third quarter, but each time the Bulldogs were able to answer.  De Smet held a 39-30 lead going into the fourth quarter.  The Bulldogs had another 20-point quarter in the fourth quarter.  That offensive output kept them ahead of the Cardinals who scored 18 points in the quarter.

The Cardinals shot just 29.6% (16-54) in the game, 19.4% (7-36) from three-point area, and 60% (9-15) from the free-throw line.  De Smet finished the game shooting 39.6% (21-53) overall, 23.5% (4-17) on three-point shots, and 72.2% (13-18) from the free-throw line.

Trimmier Hanson had 29 points and two rebounds.  Isaac Griffin added nine points, three rebounds, and three steals.  Joseph Trumbauer had six points and three rebounds.  Lincoln LeBrun ended with three points and three rebounds.
