Big Second Half Run Helps De Smet to Win over St Mary Girls

The St Mary Cardinal girls held a lead at halftime, but the De Smet Bulldogs had a big second half run to take a 70-49 win over the Cardinals in Dell Rapids on Monday, December 22nd.

Both teams scored single digits in the first quarter.  The Bulldogs held a one-point lead, 9-8, at the end of the quarter.  St Mary’s had a strong second quarter and took a 24-19 lead into halftime.  De Smet went on a 9-4 run in the first two minutes of the third quarter to tie the game 28-28.  They kept that momentum going and finished the third quarter with an 18-7 run for a 46-35 lead.  The De Smet offense continued to roll and scored 24 points in the fourth quarter to help them to the win.

St Mary’s shot 31% (16-51) from the field overall, 15% (4-27) on three-point shots, and 52% (13-25) from the free-throw line.  De Smet shot 38% (24-63) overall, 33% (6-18) from three-point area, and 52% (16-31) from the free-throw line.

Stephenie Geraets finished with 16 points, seven steals, and three rebounds.  Maddyn LeBrun had nine points, six rebounds, and three assists.  Layla Joe Hanson ended with eight points, three rebounds, and two steals.  Sophia McNaughton had seven points and three rebounds.
