The St Mary Cardinal volleyball team had their 2025 season come to an end in the Region 3B Tournament on Tuesday, November 4th in Chester. The Cardinals fell in straight sets to the Ethan Rustlers by scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-19.
Ethan started the match with a 3-0 run and never trailed in the opening set. They were able to extend the lead to five points, 10-5, and maintained a four-to-six point lead throughout the rest of the set. The Rustlers held leads of 12-8, 16-12, 19-13, and 22-16 before scoring the final three points for a 25-16 opening set win.
The Rustlers also started the second set with the lead, 3-1. The Cardinals responded with a 7-1 run to take an 8-4 lead. St Mary continued to lead by scores of 10-7 and 12-10. Ethan was able to get within a point, 14-13, and then went on a 3-0 run to go back in front 16-14. That spurt kept them in the lead the rest of the set. St Mary was within a point late at 18-17, but Ethan finished the set on a 7-2 run for a 25-19 win.
St Mary grabbed the early lead, 3-1, to start the third set. The Cardinals were still in front 6-4, but Ethan rallied to tie the score 7-7. The two teams were tied again at 9-9. From there the Rustlers went on a 4-1 run to take a 13-10 lead. They were able to slowly pull away and had leads of 15-11, 19-14, and 22-15. Ethan was able to finish the match by winning the third set 25-19.
Emy Herber had 11 kills and two blocks. Harper Werdel finished with eight kills. Natalie Gilbert added 28 set assists. Stephenie Geraets had 13 digs and four set assists. Maddyn LeBrun had 13 digs and a block, and Layla Hanson added 13 digs.
The Cardinals finished the 2025 season with an overall record of 18-10.
