The St Mary Cardinal boys joined the girls team as a state tournament bound team. St Mary defeated the Waverly-South Shore Coyotes, 80-50, in the SoDak 16 in Madison on Thursday, March 11th.
The Cardinals opened the game on a 7-0 run. Waverly-South Shore was able to cut that lead down to 11-8 with 2:40 to go in the opening quarter. St Mary, however, ended the first quarter with a 20-12 lead. The Cardinals kept extending their lead throughout the rest of the game. They pushed the lead to 37-22 at halftime and then 59-36 going into the fourth quarter.
St Mary shot 63% (34-54) overall, 29% (5-17) on three-point attempts, and 58% (7-12) from the free-throw line. The Coyotes finished the game shooting 39% (20-51) overall, 32% (6-19) from three-point area, and 40% (4-10) from the free-throw line.
Trevon Beckman had 26 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Jake Kopsas finished with 20 points and four rebounds. Maverick LeBrun ended with 16 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Trimmier Hanson had eight points, and Lincoln LeBrun had six points.
