The St Mary Cardinal boys improved to 8-0 and earned a Dakota Valley Conference win over the Elkton-Lake Benton Elks in Lake Benton, MN on Tuesday, January 14th. The Cardinals pulled away in the middle quarters for a 61-41 victory.
St Mary took a four-point lead, 13-9, with 4:00 to go in the opening quarter. The lead only grew to five points, 20-15, by the end of the quarter. The Cardinals got a little more separation in the second quarter. St Mary outscored the Elks 20-8 to take a 40-23 lead into halftime. The Cardinals delivered the big blow in the third quarter. They outscored Elkton-Lake Benton 19-6 to increase the lead to 59-29 going into the final quarter.
Trevon Beckman led the way with 30 points. Maverick LeBrun added nine points. Trimmier Hanson ended with eight points. Lincoln LeBrun and Peyton Lamb both had six points each. Jake Kopsas tallied two points.
