Third Quarter Run Lifts Cardinal Girls to Win in De Smet

The St Mary Cardinal girls used a big run in the third quarter to help them to a 55-36 win in De Smet on Thursday, January 2nd.

The Cardinals built a 16-11 lead throughout the first quarter.  They were able to extend that lead to 27-18 by halftime.  The Bulldogs scored the first seven points of the third quarter and cut the lead to 27-25 with 5:15 to play in the quarter.  St Mary went on an 8-2 run to make the score 35-27 with 1:50 to go, and then continued to score 13 more points before the quarter’s end.  The Cardinals built a 48-30 lead by the end of the third quarter.  That run was key to the win for St Mary.

St Mary shot 40% (22-55) overall from the field, 31% (5-16) on three-point attempts, and 43% (6-14) from the free-throw line.  De Smet finished the game shooting 32% (13-41) overall, 19% (4-21) on three-point attempts, and 40% (6-15) from the free-throw line.

Madala Hanson finished with 19 points and four rebounds.  Jenna Miller added 13 points, four rebounds, and seven steals.  Maddyn LeBrun ended with nine points and seven rebounds.  Jodie Klein had five points.  Megan Geraets had four points and six rebound.
