Cardinal Boys Stay Unbeaten with Entringer Win

The St Mary Cardinal boys improved to 4-0 on the season after a 60-43 win over the Flandreau Fliers at the Entringer Classic in Brookings on Saturday, December 28th.

The Cardinals opened the game on a 5-0 run.  Flandreau responded with seven straight for a 7-5 lead.  The teams traded points throughout the rest of the first quarter.  St Mary held a one-point lead, 12-11, at the end of the quarter.  The second quarter was close throughout as well.  The first half ended with a 22-22 tie score.

The third quarter remained a close battle through the first five minutes.  With 2:40 to play in the third, St Mary led 31-30.  The Cardinals finished the quarter on a 10-4 run to take a 41-34 lead into the fourth quarter.  St Mary continued their run in the fourth quarter.  They outscored the Fliers 19-9 to secure the win.

St Mary shot 45% (24-53) overall in the game, 39% (7-18) on three-point attempts, and 5-7 from the free-throw line.  Flandreau finished the game shooting 32% (15-47) from the field overall, 17% (3-18) on three-point shots, and 10-10 from the free-throw line.

Two players had double-doubles for the Cardinals.  Trevon Beckman, named the game’s MVP, had 18 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, and two steals.  Maverick LeBrun had 19 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Jake Kopsas finished with eight points and four rebounds.  Trimmier Hanson had seven points.  Lincoln LeBrun ended with six points.
