The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys basketball team hosted the Colman-Egan Hawks on Friday, December 20th in a Region 3B and Dakota Valley Conference matchup. The Cardinals took the win 66-57 to start the season with three straight home wins.
St Mary took the lead in the opening quarter and held a 15-9 advantage after the first quarter. The Cardinals were able to extend their lead by three points by halftime. St Mary lead 31-22 at halftime. Colman-Egan made a run in the third quarter. They outscored the Cardinals 17-12 in the quarter and cut the lead to 43-39 going into the fourth quarter. The Cardinals were able to shut down the Hawks rally in the fourth quarter and outscored Colman-Egan 23-18 in the final quarter for the win.
St Mary finished the game shooting 39% (21-54) overall, 33% (9-27) on three-point attempts, and 83% (15-18) from the free-throw line. Colman-Egan shot 44% (24-55) overall in the game, 31% (5-16) from three point area, and 50% (4-8) from the free-throw line.
Three players finished in double figures for the Cardinals, and two of them and double-doubles in the game. Maverick LeBrun had 24 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists. Trevon Beckman had 23 points, 13 rebound, four assists, and four steals. Trimmier Hanson added 11 points and two assists. Lincoln LeBrun had six points with six rebounds.
