The St Mary Cardinal girls basketball team cruised to a 71-41 win to start the 2024-2025 season. The Cardinals overcame a slow start to earn the win over the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots at home.
The Patriots got off to a quick start and led 7-2 with 4:20 to go in the opening quarter. The Cardinals finished the first quarter with an 11-5 scoring advantage to take a 13-12 lead into the second quarter. St Mary found it’s groove in the second quarter and built a 38-22 lead by halftime. The Cardinals outscored the Patriots 14-9 in the second quarter and 19-10 in the final quarter for the win.
St Mary shot 36% (26-72) overall from the field, 32% (10-31) on three-point shots, and 64% (9-14) from the free-throw line. Hills-Beaver Creek finished the game shooting 37% (13-35) overall, 38% (5-13) from three-point area, and 43% (10-23) from the free-throw line. The Cardinal defense was able to force 27 turnovers in the game.
Four players finished in double figures for the Cardinals. Jenna Miller had 18 points, three steals, and two assists. Addison Libis added 15 points and two steals. Brianna Griffin had 11 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Madala Hanson ended with 11 points, five steals, and three rebounds. Stephenie Geraets had six rebounds. Maddyn LeBrun had four steals and three assists.
