Colman-Egan Spoils St Mary Volleyball Celebrations

On a night the St Mary Cardinals celebrated their seniors and had one of the seniors reach a milestone, the Colman-Egan Hawks spoiled the celebrations with a 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Cardinals on Tuesday, October 29th.  The Hawks won by scores of 18-25, 19-25, 25-13, 25-16, and 15-6.

The match was the final regular season home match for St Mary, and the Cardinals celebrated their four seniors prior to the match.  Also during the match, Madala Hanson reached 1,000 career set assists.

After a 2-2 tie to start the first set, St Mary grabbed a 5-2 lead.  The Cardinals were able to stay in the lead at scores of 9-6, 11-9, 14-12, and 17-15.  They then extended their lead to 22-17 before winning the first set 25-18.  Hanson got the Cardinals on a roll from the service line to start the second set.  St Mary started with an 8-0 lead.  They pushed the lead all the way to 14 points at scores of 21-7 and 24-10.  Colman-Egan, however, started to grab some momentum at the end of the set.  The Hawks went on a 9-0 run to make the score 24-19 before a service error gave the Cardinals a 25-19 win.

Colman-Egan took a 4-2 lead to start the third set.  They continued to lead 6-4, but St Mary then went on a 5-2 run to go in front 9-8.  The Hawks responded with a 4-1 run to go back in front 12-10.  Colman-Egan then went on an 11-0 run to make the score 23-10.  They would win the third set 25-13.  The Cardinals looked to have regrouped between sets as they started the fourth set with a 5-1 run.  Colman-Egan would rally again, this time going on a 10-1, to take an 11-6 lead.  The Hawks stayed ahead by four points at scores of 12-8 and 15-11.  They would go on another run, this time a 7-2 run, to extend their lead to 22-13.  St Mary scored three in a row to cut the lead to 22-16, but the Hawks finished the set with a 3-0 run for a 25-16 win.

Momentum was certainly on the side of the Hawks as they started the fifth set with a 6-1 run.  The Cardinals were able to get within four points, 8-4, but once again Colman-Egan would answer.  They scored the next five points to push the lead to nine points, 13-4.  Colman-Egan would take the match with a 15-6 win.

Brianna Griffin finished with 10 kills and 20 digs.  Megan Geraets had nine kills and two blocks.  Emersyn Herber tallied 13 kills, seven digs, and two blocks.  Harper Werdel added seven kills and two blocks.  Hanson ended the night with 19 digs and five ace serves.  Stephenie Geraets had eight digs, two kills, and two blocks.  Jodie Klein had a team-high 32 digs, and Lucy Vargas had 17 digs.
