The St Mary Cardinal football team played their final regular season game on the afternoon of Friday, October 18th. The Cardinals cruised to a 46-8 win over the Sioux Falls Lutheran Eagles.
Lincoln LeBrun put the Cardinals on the board with 7:04 to go in the opening quarter with a one-yard touchdown run. Trimmier Hanson scored the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead. Hanson would add a two-yard touchdown run with 2:50 remaining in the opening quarter. He would then throw a successful pass to Maverick LeBrun for the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 16-0. Hanson and L. LeBrun connected for a 17-yard touchdown pass with :50 in the opening quarter. St Mary led 22-0 after one quarter of play.
Thomas LaVoy found the endzone with 9:08 left in the first half on a three-yard run. L. LeBrun had a halfback pass to Keaton Hansen for the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 30-0. LaVoy scored again with 3:35 left in the second quarter on an eight-yard run. Hanson tossed a pass to Jake Heinitz for the two-point conversion. The Cardinals led 38-0 at halftime.
Heinitz scored with 5:14 to play in the third quarter on a 17-yard run. Jaxon Baumberger had a pass to Jacob Flemmer for the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 46-0. The Eagles got a score on a three yard pass with 5:51 remaining in the game. They also made the two-point conversion.
“The boys played well. Our offensive line did a good job of setting the tone and opening holes for the backs. Our defense played very well giving Sioux Falls Lutheran a tough time of getting anything going,” said head coach Ross Flemmer.
The Cardinals had a total of 407 yards of offense, 382 rushing yards and 25 passing yards. The Eagles were held to just 92 total yards of offense, 75 rushing yards and 17 passing yards. LaVoy had nine carries for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Heinitz had 10 carries for 98 yards and a touchdown. L. LeBrun added five carries for 35 yards and a touchdown. Hanson was 1-4 passing for a touchdown. L. LeBrun had a touchdown catch for 13 yards. Jacob Geraets led the team with six tackles. Flemmer and Pano Skliris had four tackles each. Josh Liebl added three tackles. M. LeBrun had two sacks in the game.
