Cardinal Football Enters Bye Week Undefeated

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals football team will enter their bye week undefeated after a 50-0 win at Iroquois/Lake Preston on Friday, September 27th.

“The boys played hard and got the job done.  They came out and took control of the game early.  Our defense played lights out and our offense really got rolling,” said head coach Ross Flemmer.

Lincoln LeBrun put the Cardinals on the board with an eight-yard touchdown run with 10:08 in the opening quarter.  Trimmier Hanson added a 73-yard punt return for a touchdown with 7:39 to go.  St Mary made both two-point conversions for a 16-0 lead.  Hanson connected with Jaxon Baumberger for a 16-yard touchdown with 2:56 still left in the opening quarter to extend the lead to 22-0.

The Cardinals scored on the very first play of the second quarter.  LeBrun had a 39-yard touchdown run, and Kade Lutt had the two-point conversion to make the score 30-0.  Hanson added a 25-yard touchdown run with 7:43 left in the half.  Jake Kopsas would have a 40-yard touchdown run with 5:48 to play in the second quarter.  Jacob Flemmer scored the two-point conversion to give St Mary a 44-0 lead.  The score remained 44-0 at halftime.  Flemmer had the game winning five-yard touchdown run with 5:00 left in the third quarter to end the game on the 50-point rule.

St Mary finished with 295 yards of total offense, 237 rushing yards and 58 passing yards.  The Sharks had just 13 yards of offense, all rushing yards.  LeBrun had six carries for 77 yards and two touchdowns.  Hanson had five carries for 56 yards.  Jake Kopsas had two carries for 83 yards with a touchdown.  Flemmer had two attempts for 19 yards and a touchdown.  Hanson was 3-4 passing for 58 yards and a touchdown.  Baumberger had a catch for 16 yards and a touchdown.  Thomas LaVoy had a catch for 28 yards, and Keaton Hansen had a catch for 14 yards.

Maverick LeBrun and Josh Liebl both had six tackles each.  Lutt finished with 4.5 tackles and two sacks.  LaVoy had 3.5 tackles, and Gavin Pica had three tackles.
