The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls had an unexpected game against the Parker Pheasants at home on Thursday, February 8th. Parker was not originally on the Cardinal schedule this season. St Mary was scheduled to play Baltic on Tuesday, February 6th, but because of a misunderstanding, that game never happened. The Cardinals were able to add Parker last minute, and St Mary earned a 53-45 victory.
The Cardinals led by as many as nine points in the first quarter at 16-7. Parker finished the quarter on a 7-0 run and cut the lead to 16-14. The Pheasants got the first two points of the second quarter to tie the game 16-16. St Mary went back in front 21-16, but again Parker made a run. This time the Pheasants went on a 6-0 run to take a 22-21 lead. The first half ended in a 25-25 tie.
St Mary opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run for a 34-25 lead. Parker trimmed the lead to 36-31 going into the fourth quarter. The Pheasants chipped away at the lead and got within two points, 44-42, but St Mary finished strong and ended the game on a 9-3 run to secure the win.
The Cardinals shot 38% (21-56) overall in the game, 24% (4-17) from three-point area, and 47% (7-15) from the free-throw line. Parker shot 29% (17-58) overall, 24% (6-25) on three-point shots, and 50% (5-10) from the free-throw line.
Jenna Miller finished with 20 points, two rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Jodie Klein had 11 points, two rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Addison Libis added eight points and three assists. Maddyn LeBrun had six points and 12 rebounds. Sierra Klein had four points and eight rebounds. Megan Geraets ended with four points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
