Playing in their first game in over a week, the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys earned a 76-41 victory over the Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks on Thursday, February 1st.
It took about two and a half quarters for the Cardinals to really get going. St Mary led by just four points, 17-13, at the end of the first quarter. They had a good second quarter and extended their lead to 32-18 by halftime. The Sharks cut into the lead and trailed by just nine points, 39-30, with 4:30 to play in the third quarter. That’s when St Mary made their run. The Cardinals went on a 13-0 run and finished the third quarter on a 22-4 run for a 61-24 lead going into the fourth quarter. They outscored the Sharks 15-7 in the final quarter.
St Mary shot 57% (26-46) overall in the game, 57% (8-14) from three-point area, and 84% (16-19) from the free-throw line. Iroquois/Lake Preston shot 38% (14-37) overall, 35% (8-23) on three-point shots, and 83% (5-6) from the free-throw line.
Maverick LeBrun had 30 points, eight rebounds, seven steals, and two assists. Trevon Beckman finished with 24 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Trimmier Hanson added eight points and three assists. Camden Gilbert had six points and two assists.
