Huge First Quarter Propels Cardinal Boys to Win

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals scored 35 points in the opening quarter on their way to a 71-36 road win over the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders on Thursday, January 11th.

The Cardinals built a 21-point lead, 35-14, in the opening quarter.  St Mary outscored the Raiders 13-6 in the second quarter and led 48-20 at halftime.  They continued to roll in the second half outscoring Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 23-16 in the second half.

The defense for St Mary played tough all game long.  They forced 22 Raider turnovers, 16 of those on steals.  St Mary shot 53% (30-57) overall, 33% (5-15) from three-point area, and 60% (6-10) from the free-throw line.  The Raiders finished the game shooting 40% (16-40) overall, 2-4 on three-point attempts, and 2-4 from the free-throw line.

Two players finished with over 20 points in the game.  Maverick LeBrun had 24 points, five rebounds, three steals, two assists, and two blocked shots.  Trevon Beckman had 23 points, five rebounds, five assists, and five steals.  Nic Gaspar added eight points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Lucas Flemmer had six points and four rebounds.  Camden Gilbert ended with five points.
