The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal football team had their final regular season road game on Friday, September 29th. The Cardinals traveled to Kimball to take on the Kimball/White Lake WiLdKats. The WiLdKats took 48-6 win.
St Mary scored first on the opening drive of the game. Nic Gaspar had a 50-yard touchdown run with 9:48 in the first quarter for an early 6-0 lead. The Cardinal defense forced a turnover on downs on the WiLdKats first drive of the game, but the Cardinal offense had to start their next drive inside their 10 yard line. A fumbled pitch into the endzone, recovered by St Mary, resulted in a safety with 6:47 to play in the quarter. That’s when Kimball/White Lake started gaining momentum.
On the very next drive, the WiLdKats scored on a 19-yard run and also made the two-point conversion. Kimball/White Lake led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter. The WiLdKats would add four touchdowns in the second quarter, two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns for a 36-6 lead at halftime. They also got a rushing touchdown in each of the third and fourth quarters.
St Mary finished with 113 yards of total offense, 76 rushing yards and 37 passing yards. The WiLdKats had 358 yards of offense, 309 rushing yards and 49 passing yards.
Gaspar had four carries for 65 yards and a touchdown. Lucas Flemmer had four carries for 12 yards, and Lincoln LeBrun added five rushes for eight yards. Owen Vargas was 2-7 passing for 17 yards. Trimmier Hanson was 1-3 passing for six yards, and Jaxon Baumberger was 1-5 passing for 14 yards. Kade Lutt, L. LeBrun, Logan Bauer, and Maverick LeBrun all had a catch. Keaton Hansen and Flemmer both had seven tackles each. Thomas LaVoy ended with 6.5 tackles. Bauer and Baumberger each had six tackles, and M. LeBrun had two tackles and a fumble recovery.
