The 2022 Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal competitive cheer team had a very successful year. They finished Runner-Up at the state competition to the 17-time state champions, Sioux Valley. The team is looking to repeat that success in 2023.
“I’m very excited for the upcoming season. Last season ended on a high note, and the girls now know the feeling of that success. The team has high goals and would like a repeat of last year,” said head coach Cami Bacon.
The Cardinals return 15 members from last year’s squad. They will be led by two seniors, Sophie Schwebach and Lucey Swift. Both of them have been with the program since seventh grade making this year their sixth season of competitive cheer. All of the flyers are returning members from last year’s team which will bring great experience in the air. Bacon also said that the new bases are wonderful additions to the team this season.
“Each year is a fresh start for everyone, and the girls know it is going to take a lot of hard work and dedication, but they are all up to the challenge. The girls need to stay focused, just take one competition at a time, and continue to make improvements each week,” added Bacon.
The Cardinals will host the St Mary Invite on Monday, August 28th to start the 2023 competitive cheer season.
