The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals (16-5) dominated in all areas of the game in a Region 3B win over the Bridgewater-Emery Huskies 69-44 on Tuesday, February 21st.
The Cardinals shot the ball well, had only seven turnovers as a team while forcing 24 turnovers, and out-rebounded Bridgewater-Emery 27-20 in the game. St Mary shot 43% (27-63) overall, 27% (10-37) on three-point attempts, and 63% (5-8) from the free-throw line. The Huskies did shoot 50%, but were only able to get 32 (16-32) shots the entire game. They were 47% (7-15) on three-point attempts and 5-7 from the free-throw line.
After trailing 6-3 early in the first quarter, St Mary went on a 13-0 run and finished the first quarter leading 23-12. The Cardinals continued to roll from there throughout the rest of the game. St Mary led 41-23 at halftime and 63-35 at the end of the third quarter.
Ella Griffin had 25 points, 22 in the first half, with four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Madala Hanson had 15 points, two rebounds, three assists, and six steals. Whitney Warwick finished with nine points, five rebounds, and two assists. Brianna Griffin also had nine points and five rebounds. Maya Heinitz added six points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
