The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals (14-3) held off a pesky Baltic Bulldogs team on Friday, February 17th. Ater taking the lead in the first quarter, the Cardinals were able to keep the lead and hold on for a 70-62 win at home.
St Mary trailed 10-7 with 4:00 to play in the opening quarter. The Cardinals went on a 10-0 run over the next two and a half minutes for a 17-10 lead. They ended the first quarter leading 19-12 and stayed in front the rest of the game. St Mary held a 39-30 lead at halftime. They continued to maintain a seven-to-10 point lead throughout most of the second half as well. St Mary held a 53-45 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The Cardinals finished the game shooting 50% (21-42) overall, 40% (6-15) on three-point shots, and 67% (22-33) from the free-throw line. Baltic shot 45% (24-53) overall, 22% (4-18) from three-point area, and 59% (10-17) from the free-throw line.
Four players finished in double figures. Nic Gaspar had 20 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Maverick LeBrun also had 20 points with six rebounds. Trevon Beckman finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Trimmier Hanson added 11 points and two assists. CJ Smith had seven points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
