Craig Harmsen, 66, died Friday, November 1, 2013, at the Morningside Manor Nursing Home in Alcester, SD. A memorial service will begin at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD. The family will be present to greet friends for visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Craig Douglas Harmsen, son of John and Marion (Knutson) Harmsen was born October 31, 1947, in Sheldon, IA. He grew up between Sheldon, Yankton, SD and Sioux Falls and would later graduate from Yankton High School. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served honorably from 1965 to 1968 when he was discharged in Bambridge, Maryland. After his discharge he worked various different jobs from Hawaii to Sioux Falls. In 1991 he began working for Deli Express as a salesman.
On October 1, 1994, Craig married Nancy Bloch in Chamberlain, SD. The couple lived there until 2001 when he transferred to Denver, CO with his work. They lived in Denver until 2007 when they moved back to Sioux Falls where he began to work for Prairie Coach. The couple would later mov to Dell Rapids to be closer to his work.
In his free time, Craig enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends, traveling and bowling. He loved to bowl wherever there was an alley and had a number of “300” games. More than anything else, Craig loved his family. He was a very loving man who will be greatly missed by all those who shared his life.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Nancy Harmsen, Dell Rapids, SD; daughters, Trena (Chadd) Lundquist, Aberdeen, SD, Tatum (fiancé, Cy) Harmsen, Omaha, NE, and Tiffanie Harmsen, Hecla, SD; 7 grandchildren; sisters, Chevon (Pat) Padrnos, Flagstaff, AZ and Charisse Peterson, Oregon; step-daughters, Chris (Dan) Hotzler, Baltic, SD, Jaime (Jerrod) Steiger, Kimball, SD, and Keli (Chad) Bolstad, Sioux Falls; and 6 step-grandchildren.
