Carroll Nelson

Carroll NelsonCarroll V. Nelson, 86, of Colman, SD, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Dells Nursing and Rehab Center, Dell Rapids, SD. Carroll was born December 18, 1930, at the family farm south of Colman, SD, to Clarence and Verna (Sonen) Nelson. He attended Kluge country school and graduated from Colman High School in 1948. Carroll attended Augustana College before joining the S.D. Air National Guard. He served during the Korean War and was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base. After his discharge, he returned to Colman and started farming. Carroll married Erlis Christensen on May 26, 1957, in Colman. They farmed in the Colman area and moved onto the Nelson home farm in 1964. Carroll started working at T & R Electric in 1974. They moved into Colman in 1984 and he continued working for T & R and farming until he retired. Carroll was a member of Colman Lutheran Church and was a former board member of Lynn Township. He enjoyed cattle, auctions, and going to all of his grandkid’s events.

Carroll is survived by his wife Erlis; three children, Laurie (Ken) Hannasch, Colman; Vince (Jeri), Colman; Diane (Dennis) LeBrun, Dell Rapids; 10 grandchildren, Bethany, Caitlin, Dalton, Jenny, Sarah, Paige, Matt, Jeff, Kirk, Lexie; nine great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Logan, Braxton, Crayton, Skylar, Parker, Emma, Evelyn, Paisley; and one sister Jean Kenison, Sioux Falls. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Barbara Turner.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Colman Lutheran Church, Colman, SD, with burial in the Colman Cemetery. Visitation is 5 – 7 p.m. Tuesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Colman, with a 7 p.m. prayer service. On-line condolences may be left at the Skroch Funeral Chapel website.
