Big Sioux Media and Heavenly Cupcakes are proud to announce the start of our “Student of the Month” campaign! Every month students from Dell Rapids Public and Dell Rapids St Mary will be chosen to be recognized as “Students of the Month”. We want to not only recognize the hard work that students put in the classroom with their studies, but also the great things they are doing inside the school and out in the community, such as being positive role models to younger students, lending a helping hand without asking, or community service. Administration and staff at both schools will be nominating and selecting students each month. Big Sioux Media will be recognizing those students on our website, presenting them with a certificate, and Heavenly Cupcakes will be rewarding those students with a 1/2 dozen cupcakes!
If you spot a Dell Rapids student exhibiting the qualities listed in the community, and would like to nominate them for Student of the Month, email us at admin@bigsiouxmedia.com. We’ll send your comments to the appropriate school for the administration to consider them as a nominee!
May Students of the Month
Dell Rapids St Mary Elementary School – Megan Geraets, 2nd Grade: Megan is the daughter of John and Tami Geraets and is currently in 3rd grade. She has an older brother Luke in 6th grade, a younger sister Paige in 1st grade, a younger sister Aubrey who will be in Pre-School in the Fall, as well as a younger brother not yet in school.
According to her nomination, “Megan is such a hard worker and a great student. She tries her best all the time and does what she is asked to do. Megan is always willing to lend a helping hand. She is consciences and fair and often tries to resolve conflicts among friends and classmates.” Megan’s kind disposition and Christian attitude make her a good role model as well as a great choice for Student of the Month. We are proud to call her a Cardinal. Congratulations Megan!
Dell Rapids St Mary High School – Catherine Vogel, 10th Grade: Catherine is the daughter of Matthew and Lois Vogel. Her older sister Christina is a junior at Dell Rapids St. Mary, and her younger brother Jacob (a 7th grader) and Elizabeth (a Kindergartener) attend St. Mary as well.
In the last month of the award for the 2015-2016 school year, Catherine was nominated by multiple teachers as she has been throughout the year. One teacher noted that she is a “Great student who is always very respectful.” Another teacher noticed that “Besides her outstanding work as a student, she was seen assisting other classmates on projects and assignments. Rather than just giving students answers, she was mentoring and explaining the information in ways that helped them understand the content.” Catherine transferred to St. Mary in the Spring of 2014, and we are so thankful she did. She is an excellent student and role model, and we feel incredibly blessed to have her and her family be a part of our Cardinal Family. Congratulations on being selected as the May Student of the Month, Catherine!
Dell Rapids High School – Josh Chase (Junior): Josh is the son of Gerald and Colleen Chase. Josh’s nomination said, “Josh was in one of my classroom sessions during Student Awareness Day. Josh was very polite during the presentation and encouraged those around him to listen to the presenter. After the presentation, Josh went around the classroom and picked-up the handouts that other students had left behind. He showed great respect and responsibility in the short amount of time he was in my classroom. I am confident that these positive attributes are exhibited by Josh on a daily basis.” Thank you for your leadership and demonstration of excellent character!
Dell Rapids High School – Cooper Emery (Freshman): Cooper is the son of Michael and Karin Emery. Cooper’s nomination said, “Cooper Emery received the ‘You Rock’ card for being a very honest, hard-working student. Cooper always has a smile and treats everyone with respect. He is known for volunteering to assist others even if his own work is not completely done and expects nothing in return. If I ask for someone to help with a task, Cooper is the first to step forward. Cooper is a great example of what it means to be a Quarrier. ”
