Watchdog Softball Team Wins Two Games at Home Tournament

The Beresford Watchdog softball team hosted a tournament on Saturday, May 4th.  The Watchdogs won two of their three games on the day.  They earned wins over Dakota Valley and Winner, but lost to West Central.

Beresford 7, Dakota Valley 6

The Watchdogs scored five times in the bottom of the fifth to earn a 7-6 walk-off win over the Dakota Valley Panthers.  Two runs scored on an error for Beresford in the bottom of the first inning for an early 2-0 lead.  Dakota Valley then scored a run in the second, four in the third, and then another in the top of the fifth for a 6-2 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth, Halle Livingston drove home two runs with a triple.  Harley Koth tied the game with a two-run single, and Tavyn Valder delivered a bunt that allowed Koth to score on an error to win the game.

Livingston had two hits, one a triple, and two RBIs.  Koth had a single and two RBIs.  Keely Merrigan had a double, and Capri Mullinix and Valder both had a single.  Brynlee Mohning pitched five innings and allowed six runs, five earned, on five hits and nine walks with two strikeouts.

Beresford 16, Winner 1

The Watchdog offense scored in every inning while belting 12 hits.  Beresford scored five in the bottom of the first, three in the second, three in the third, and five more in the fourth.  Winner scored their only run in the top of the second inning.

Ivy Keiser had three hits and two RBIs.  Reese Olson finished with two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  K. Merrigan had a single and two RBIs.  Valder added a triple and an RBI.  Ashlynn Olson, Mullinix, Tori Sharpe, and Harper Olson all had a single and an RBI.  K. Merrigan had a hit, and Lily Seivert had an RBI.  Kate Degan pitched four innings and allowed an earned run on three hits with seven strikeouts.

West Central 15, Beresford 1

The Trojans scored in four of the five innings and built a 14-0 lead after two and a half innings on their way to the win.  Beresford’s lone run came in the bottom of the third.  West Central scored one more run in the top of the fourth.

Livingston had a single and an RBI.  Valder also had a hit.  Mohning pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed five earned runs on six hits and four walks with a strikeout.  Degen pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing 10 runs, nine earned, on eight hits and two walks.
