Beresford Softball Beat by Huskies in Explosive Last Inning

Beresford and Elk Point-Jefferson combined for 16 runs in the seventh inning, and the Huskies scored nine of those in the bottom of the seventh to steal a 19-18 win on Friday, May 3rd.

The Huskies scored three runs in the bottom of the first and led 3-0.  The score remained 3-0 through two innings of play.  Beresford put two runs on the board in the top of the third.  Elk Point-Jefferson got one back, and after three innings, the Huskies led 4-2.  Each team scored three runs in the fourth inning.

The offenses continued to pile runs on the scoreboard in the fifth.  The Watchdogs scored three more runs, and the Huskies scored two.  Elk Point-Jefferson led 9-8 after five innings of play.  Beresford took the lead, 11-9, after three runs in the sixth.  The Huskies only got one run in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 11-10 going into the final inning.  Beresford scored seven times for an 18-10 lead.  Elk Point-Jefferson, however, had a nine-run inning to get the win.

Kennedy Merrigan had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs.  Halle Livingston added two hits and four RBIs.  Ivy Keiser had two hits and two RBIs.  Keely Merrigan had a double and three RBIs.  Harley Koth finished with a double and two RBIs.  Reese Olson had a single and two RBIs.  Tavyn Valder added a hit and an RBI.  Capri Mullinix had two hits, and Lily Seivert also had a hit.  Brynlee Mohning pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs, six earned, on. three hits and four walks with one strikeout.  Rylie Laurvick pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed nine runs, eight earned, on eight hits and six walks and six strikeouts.  Keely Merrigan pitched an inning allowing two hits and a walk.
