Sixth Inning Rally Gives Beresford Softball a Win over Lennox

The Beresford Watchdogs trailed 9-3 going into the sixth inning.  They then scored nine runs in the sixth to earn a 12-11 come-from-behind win over the Lennox Orioles on Tuesday, April 23rd.

Ivy Keiser had a two-run double in the top of the first to give Beresford an early 2-0 lead.  Lennox, however, put five runs on the board in the bottom of the first.  Tavyn Valder stole home in the top of the second, but the Orioles got that run back in the bottom of the inning.  After two innings of play, Lennox led 6-3.  The Orioles added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth making the score 9-3.  Neither team scored in the fifth inning.

The first five batters for Beresford reached base to start the sixth inning.  Kaylee Ivarsen had an RBI single, Valder had an RBI bunt, and Keely Merrigan had an RBI single to make the score 9-6.  After Lennox got one out, Reese Olson had an RBI single and Keiser hit a single scoring two more runs to tie the game 9-9.  With two outs Ivarsen had a three-run double to put the Watchdogs ahead 12-9.  Lennox got a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth making the score 12-11.  The Watchdogs were able to get three outs right away in the seventh to secure the win.

Keiser finished with five hits, three of them doubles, and three RBIs.  Keeley Merrigan had five singles and an RBI.  Ivarsen finished with two hits, one a double, and three RBIs.  Olson and Valder both had a single and an RBI.  Halle Livingston had three singles, and Kennedy Merrigan  and Harley Koth both had one hit each.  Keeley Merrigan pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed nine runs, but none of them earned, on six hits and a walk with one strikeout.  Rylie Laurvick pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts.
