Watchdog Softball Walks off Sioux Falls Christian

Keely Merrigan delivered the game winning hit in the bottom of the seventh to give the Beresford Watchdogs a 15-14 win over the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers on Thursday, April 18th.  R Olson drew a leadoff walk, and I Keiser had a double to set up the game-winning hit by Keely Merrigan.

The Wachdogs played yet another offensive battle with the two teams combining for 29 runs and 35 hits.  Beresford scored five runs in the first two innings for a 5-0 lead.  Sioux Falls Christian scored twice in the top of the third, while the Watchdogs scored one to make the score 6-2.  The offenses then really got going.  The Chargers put up five runs in the fourth inning.  Beresford counted with four in the bottom half of the inning.  Sioux Falls Christian had three more runs in the top of the fifth and then held Beresford scoreless.  After five innings of play, the score was tied 10-10.

The Chargers would have another three-run inning in the top of the sixth.  Beresford would regain the lead in the bottom of the sixth with four runs and led 14-13 heading into the seventh.  With the bases loaded and two outs, the Chargers got a single to tie the game 14-14.  A ground out one batter later ended the inning and set up the bottom of the seventh for Beresford.

Keely Merrigan had three hits, including a triple, and four RBIs.  Lily Seivert added three hits, one a double and triple, with an RBI.  Ivy Keiser also had three hits, including two doubles.  Kennedy Merrigan had two hits, a home run and triple, with three RBIs.  Kaylee Ivarson ended with two hits and two RBIs.  Reese Olson also had two singles with an RBI.  H Koth had a home run and two RBIs.

Rylie Laurvick pitched four innings and allowed seven runs, but just two earned, on 10 hits with nine strikeouts.  Kate Degen pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed six runs, four earned, on six hits and a walk with a strikeout.  Brynlee Mohning pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed an earned run on three hits and two walks.  Keely Merrigan also pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed two hits and a walk with one strikeout.
