Watchdog Softball Wins Slugfest over Huskies

The Beresford Watchdogs won an offensive slugfest against the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on Friday, April 12th.  The two teams combined for 29 runs and 31 hits.  Beresford came out on top 17-12.

The Huskies scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the first inning.  Beresford got the next four.  They scored three in the bottom of the first and one in the second for a 4-2 lead after two innings of play. Elk Point-Jefferson got a run in the top of the third and then two more in the top of the fourth to take a 5-4 lead.  The lead was short lived.  The Watchdogs exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to go back in front 11-5.

Elk Point-Jefferson wouldn’t go away quietly.  They scored five times in the top of the fifth to pull within a run, 11-10.  Beresford added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs for a 13-10 score.  The Huskies added a run in the sixth, but Beresford put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Elk Point-Jefferson added one more run in the seventh.

Ivy Keiser had five hits, one a double, and three RBIs.  Reese Olson had three hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Kennedy Merrigan also had three hits, one a triple, and two RBIs.  Kaylee Ivarson had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs.  Keely Merrigan had a double and three RBIs.  Lily Seivert also had a double with two RBIs.  Tavyn Valder finished with three hits, one a double.  Rylie Laurvick pitched five innings and allowed 10 runs, six earned, on 10 hits and five walks with seven strikeouts.  Keely Merrigan pitched two innings allowing two earned runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
