Watchdog Football Shutout in Season Opener

The Beresford Watchdog football team opened the season on the road in Milbank on Friday, August 25th.  The Bulldogs of Milbank won the defensive battle 9-0.

Neither team scored in the opening quarter of the game.  Milbank put three points on the board with a 22-yard field goal in the second quarter.  The score remained 3-0 in favor of Milbank at halftime.  The third quarter was scoreless as well, and Milbank continued to lead 3-0 going into the fourth quarter.  The Bulldogs got a six-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to secure the 9-0 win.

Both defenses played strong in the game.  Neither offense had over 150 yards total in the game.  Beresford finished with 142 yards of total offense, 120 rushing yards and 22 passing yards.  Milbank had 136 yards of offense, 102 rushing yards and 34 passing yards.

Jack Stenen had 16 carries for 76 yards in the game.  Robert Watkins had 11 carries for 33 yards.  Watkins led the defense with 10 tackles and a sack.  Cooper Nelson finished with eight tackles.  Seth James ended with three tackles.
