Black Sox 16U Falls to Madison Gold in Extra Innings

The final score may not indicate a close game on the surface, but the Beresford/Alcester-Hudson 16U Black Sox and Madison Gold 16U baseball teams played two extra innings on Wednesday, June 28th.  Madison put together a big ninth inning to take the 16-8 victory.

Madison started the game with three runs in the top of the first.  BAH got one back on an RBI double by J Cole.  The Black Sox the lead in the bottom of the third.  Ethan Bovill had an RBI single, and Evan Haak had a two-run single to put BAH ahead 4-3.  They extended their lead after Jace Adams and Ashton Oberle both scored on an error.  After four innings of play, the Black Sox lead 6-3.

Madison rallied to tie the game over the next couple of innings.  They scored one run in the top of the fifth and then scored two more in the top of the sixth to make the score 6-6.  The score remained 6-6 after seven innings of play as the game went into extra innings.  Madison put two runs on the board in the top of the eighth inning.  The Black Sox responded in the bottom of the inning and tied the game.  Bovill and Gavyn Olson both scored on a wild pitch in the inning to make the score 8-8 and force a ninth inning.  Madison, however, would score eight times in the top of the ninth to take the win.

Bovill finished with three hits and an RBI.  Haak had a hit and two RBIs.  Cole had a double and an RBI.  Jax Fickbohm finished with a hit and an RBI.  Jax Wurth added a double, and Tommy Walth had a single.  Bovill pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed six runs, three earned, on 11 hits and two walks with six strikeouts.  Fickbohm pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed eight runs, five earned on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Wurth pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed two earned runs on five walks.
