Watchdog Softball Wins Two at Home Tournament

The Beresford Watchdog softball team hosted the Beresford Tournament on Saturday, May 6th.  The Watchdogs finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.

Beresford 16, Tri-Valley 2

After the Mustangs scored two runs in the top of the first inning, Beresford scored 16 unanswered runs.  The Watchdogs scored three times in the bottom of the second, 11 in the bottom of the third, and finally two in the more in the bottom of the fourth.

Harley Koth had three hits and a single.  Brenna Dann had two hits, one a double, and four RBIs.  Kennedy Merrigan finished with two singles and an RBI.  Keely Merrigan, Halle Livingston, and Ashlynn Olson all had one hit and one RBI each.  Reese Olson and Lily Seivert both had an RBI.  Kate Degen pitched five innings and allowed two runs, both unearned, on six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.

Beresford 8, Winner 6

The Watchdogs hung on for an 8-6 win after leading 7-0 in the first two innings of play.  Beresford scored four times in the bottom of the first and then three more in the bottom of the second for the 7-0 lead.  Each team scored one run in the fourth inning making the score 8-1.  The Warriors scored five times in the top of the fifth, but the rally came up short.

Seivert had a triple and double with three RBIs.  Dann had two hits, one a triple, and an RBI.  Koth finished with two singles and an RBI.  Ivy Keiser had a double and an RBI.  R. Olson and Degen both had a double.  Ken. Merrigan and Livingston each had a single.  Dann pitched five innings and allowed six runs, five earned, on eight hits with five strikeouts.

West Central 14, Beresford 1

The Trojans built a 10-0 lead on their way to a 14-1 win over Beresford.  West Central scored one run in the top of the first, but then had a nine-run second inning.  The Watchdogs scored their lone run in the bottom of the second.  West Central had two runs each in the third and fifth innings.

Dann had two of the four Watchdog hits.  Livingston and Keiser each had a single as well. Dann pitched five innings and allowed 13 runs on 22 hits.  Ken. Merrigan allowed one earned run.
