Phoenix Rallies Past Beresford Softball

The Beresford Watchdogs hosted the Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy (FMFA) Phoenix on Tuesday, May 9th.  The Phoenix rallied in the middle innings for a 16-10 win.

FMFA scored two runs in the top of the first.  Halle Livingston had an RBI ground ball and then later scored on an error to tie the game 2-2.  The Phoenix added three runs in the top of the second.  K. Merrigan had an RBI hit in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 5-4.  The Watchdogs then took the lead in the bottom of the third.  K. Merrigan had an RBI double, Ashlynn Olson followed with a two-run triple, and K. Merrigan had an RBI double to put Beresford ahead 8-5.

The Phoenix regained the lead with a four-run top of the fourth.  Beresford tied the game in the bottom of the fourth.  Ivy Keiser had an RBI single to make the score 9-9.  FMFA then scored two times in the top of the fifth and then five more runs in the top of the sixth for a 16-9 lead.  K Merrigan had an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

K. Merrigan had four hits, one a double, and three RBIs.  K. Merrigan had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs.  Keiser had two singles and an RBI.  Olson had a triple and two RBIs.  Livingston finished with a hit and an RBI.  Brenna Dann added a double.  Dann pitched seven innings and allowed 16 runs, but only seven earned, on 19 hits with nine strikeouts.
