Cardinal Boys Pull Away in Second Half for Win over Baltic

The St Mary Cardinal boys were able to pull away in the second half for a 67-52 win over the Baltic Bulldogs at home on Friday, February 21st.

St Mary started the game with a 9-0 run and ended the first quarter leading 19-11.  They extended their lead to 33-20 with 3:00 to play in the half.  Baltic then went on a 7-2 run to make the score 35-27 at halftime.  The Bulldogs continued their run to start the third quarter.  Baltic got within four points, 35-31, with 6:00 to play in the quarter.  That was as close as they would get.  St Mary ended the third quarter leading 50-38, and they continued to maintain a double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter.

Baltic shot 48% (21-44) from the field, but just 22% (4-18) on three-point shots and 6-10 from the free-throw line.  The Cardinals shot 42% (25-59) overall, 43% (9-21) on three-point attempts, and 8-9 from the free-throw line.

Trevor Cuperus finished with 16 points and eight rebounds.  Dylan Runestad also had 16 points with two rebounds.  Ben Erickson had 15 points, six rebounds, and three steals.  Kellen Artz ended with five points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three blocked shots.
