The Baltic Bulldog girls basketball team played two games on back-to-back days. They traveled to Volga for a game against the Cossacks on Friday, December 20th. The Bulldogs then played the Estelline/Hendricks Redhawks at the girls Entringer Classic in Colman on Saturday, December 21st.
Sioux Valley 68, Baltic 28
The Cossacks built a 20-4 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back. They extended the lead to 43-18 by halftime and 60-25 going into the fourth quarter.
Harper Kortemeyer had 12 points and three rebounds. Meredith Larson finished with nine points and five rebounds. Caitlyn Pickett added five points and two rebounds.
Baltic 52, Estelline/Hendricks 24
The Bulldogs turned a close game at halftime into a big win with a strong second half against the Redhawks. The game was tied 7-7 with 5:00 to go in the opening quarter. Baltic finished the first quarter leading 15-9. Estelline/Hendricks started the second quarter with a 5-0 run to get within a point, 15-14, with 5:00 left in the half. The Bulldogs ended the quarter on a 5-1 run to make the score 20-15 at halftime. Baltic started to pull away in the third quarter. They outscored the Redhawks 13-4 to take a 33-19 lead into the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs would then add 19 points to their total while holding the Redhawks to just five fourth-quarter points.
Pickett, named the game’s MVP, had 21 points and 11 rebounds. Larson finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Ha. Kortemeyer had seven points and six rebounds. Holland Kortemeyer had five points and five rebounds.
