The Baltic 16U baseball team went 1-1 in their two games of the Region 3B tournament in Scotland on Monday, July 29th.
Scotland/Menno 11, Baltic 1
In the first game of the day, Scotland/Menno scored six times in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Baltic got their lone run in the bottom of the first. Scotland/Menno scored four more in the top of the second for a 10-1 lead. The final run came in the top of the fourth before the game ended on the 10-run rule after five innings.
Jackson Goehring had two hits, including a double, which were the only two hits of the game for Baltic. Kellen Artz pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed an unearned run on four hits with three strikeouts. Aaron Nordbye pitched one inning and allowed four unearned runs on a hit and two walks with two strikeouts. Goehring pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed six runs, four earned, on a hit and two walks with two strikeouts.
Baltic 6, Canova 3
Baltic was able to avoid elimination by winning their second game against Canova. They scored two runs right away in the top of the first inning. Canova would get one run back in the bottom of the inning. The Gang then scored two runs in the bottom of the third to go ahead 3-2. Baltic, however, scored the final four runs of the game. They tied the game in the top of the fifth with a run. Baltic then took the lead, 5-3, with two runs in the sixth and then added one more in the seventh.
Braxton Allen had three hits, including a triple ,and two RBIs. Goehring had two singles with an RBI. Gavin Skotvold had two hits, one a double. AJ Grunewaldt also had two hits. Cale Roach had a single with two RBIs. Dylan Runestad added one hit. Grunewaldt pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed three runs, just one earned, on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts. Allen pitched 2/3 of an inning walking one and striking out one.
