Arnie Schildhauer

Arnie SchildhauerArnold “Arnie” Schildhauer, 87, of Dell Rapids passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2015 in Dell Rapids. His funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery. Visitation on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 will begin at noon with the family present from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m at Kahler Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at www.kahlerfh.com.

Arnold Schildhauer was born on December 8, 1927 at Plankinton, SD, the son of Chris and Cora (Drenth) Schildhauer. As Arnie was growing up, his family moved to Montrose and then, Dell Rapids. He graduated from DRHS in 1945. Arnie farmed with his family until he entered the trucking business. Arnie married Arlene Halvorson on September 24, 1949 at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. The couple made their home in Dell Rapids. In 1979, Arnold quit trucking to become the Superintendent of the street department for the City of Dell Rapids. He retired in 1997. Arlene passed away in 2009.

Arnie enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with family, friends, and his grandchildren. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. He was preceded in death by three infant grandchildren, one infant great-grandson and three brothers.

Those left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Larry (Rhonda) and Terry (Chris), both of Dell Rapids; his three daughters, Carol (Allen) Heesch of Fairview, SD, Lynn Anderson of Sioux Falls, and Joni (Mark) Hauglid of Colman; his fifteen grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; his two brothers, Bill (Lavonne) and Ray (Joann), both of Sioux Falls; and his sister, Florence Berg of Dell Rapids.
