Anna (DeJong) Rentschler

anna RentschlerAnna Rentschler, 81, of Egan, SD, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at her home. Anna was born March 23, 1936 at Humboldt, SD, to George and Anna (Bethlem) DeJong. She graduated from Colton High School, Colton, SD. Anna married Verlyn Rentschler on March 9, 1955. She worked as a cleaning maid, home health caregiver, and at the Flandreau Bakery. She drove school bus for 36 years, driving for Egan, Colman-Egan, and Flandreau. Anna was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, WELCA, ELCA, EMT for the Egan Fire Department, Quilting Ladies, and Egan PTA.

Anna is survived by her husband, Verlyn; five children, Cynthia Menning, Flandreau, SD; Charles (Sharon), Colman, SD; Clayton (Vicki), Flandreau, SD; Crystal (Kevin) Page, Artesian, SD; and Cathy Jo Loehr, Egan, SD; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sister, Frieda Bos, Beresford, SD; brother, Ray (Joan) DeJong, Dell Rapids, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. Anna was preceded in death by her son, Craig; parents; siblings, Jake DeJong, Charlie DeJong, George DeJong, Thres Burgers, Dorothy Swier, and Susan Bassett; son-in-law, Tim Menning; mother and father-in-law, Ruby and Charles Rentschler; and other in-laws.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2017 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Flandreau, with burial in Hillside Cemetery, Egan. Visitation will be 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with a prayer service beginning at 3:00 p.m. On-line condolences may be left at the Skroch Funeral Chapel website.

Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
