The Alcester-Hudson Cub softball team won two games in Marion on Friday, May 19th. The Cubs defeated both Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy (FMFA) and Arlington in one run games.
Alcester-Hudson 3, Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy 2
The Cubs opened the afternoon with a one-run win over the Phoenix. After two innings of scoreless play, the Phoenix got a run in the top of the third. The Cubs tied the game when Elly Doering scored on a double play. Alcester-Hudson took the lead on an RBI single by Delta Pies in the bottom of the fourth. Jaeley Christensen added an RBI single later in the inning for a 3-1 lead. The Phoenix cut the lead to 3-2 with a run in the top of the fifth and had runners on second and third before the Emma Moller got a strikeout to end the game.
Pies and Christensen both had a single and an RBI. Paxtyn Moller, E. Moller, and Doering all had a double in the game. Alexis Gray added a single. E. Moller pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits and four walks with nine strikeouts.
Alcester-Hudson 1, Arlington 0
In their second game of the day, Alcester-Hudson scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Doering delivered an RBI single for the 1-0 lead.
Doering had two of the four hits for the Cubs along with the RBI. Sarah Ebert had a double, and E. Moller finished with a single. E. Moller pitched all five innings again allowing just five hits and five walks with 11 strikeouts.
