Jim Dorris

James A. Dorris, 60, of Huron, died on Friday, July 26, 2013. 

His memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron.  Visitation with the family present will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.  Burial of his cremated remains will be held at a later date.  Visit www.welterfuneralhome.com to leave condolences. 

James A. Dorris was born to Alfred and Beulah (Hornback) Dorris on May 23, 1953, in Mitchell.  He attended school and graduated from Huron High School. He worked as a foreman for Groves Construction for 30 years. He also worked for 12 years for Western Area Power as a construction representative before his retirement.

He married Lois Mastel on June 5, 1980, in Huron.  

He was a member of the North American Hunting Club, Ducks Unlimited, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, drag racing and working on cars.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, of Huron; two sons, Daniel (Alicia Fjeldhein) Dorris, of Dell Rapids and Jade Morgan of Texarkana, Texas;  two grandchildren; Donna Dosch; seven brothers, Rick Dorris, Wynn (Maria) Dorris and David (Mary) Dorris, all of Huron, Don (Peggy) Dorris of Tulare, and Greg, Mark, and Todd Summers ; six sisters, Sandy (Darrin) Story of Huron, Vicky (Kevin) Slunecka of Everly, Iowa, Nickie Dorris of Huron, Heather Summers, Jackie Summers and Carol; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Michael.
