Mary M. Schwebach

Mary M. Schwebach, 91, of Dell Rapids passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Kahler Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The Christian Wake Service will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. To leave condolences please visit www.kahlerfh.com.

Mary Mergen was born on September 17, 1921 near Dell Rapids, the daughter of Matt and Anna Mergen. She grew up on a farm north of Dell Rapids and attended country school. Mary graduated from St. Mary High School in 1939. She then worked for the Civil Service in Wichita, KS and Kansas City, Kansas.

Mary returned home to Dell Rapids and married Francis J. Schwebach on April 30, 1946 in St. Mary Catholic Church. They made their home in Dell Rapids their entire married life. Mary worked in the family business, F.J. Schwebach Plumbing and Heating, until she retired in 1981. Fritz passed away on March 28, 2002. Mary remained in her home until September of 2012.

Mary was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Altar Society. She volunteered at Padre’s for many years, retiring in June of this year. Mary loved watching sunsets at their cabin on Lake Madison since 1970.

Mary passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. She was 91 and was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, six sisters, and a granddaughter.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Lynn (Linda) of Greenville, SC and Rand (Mignonne) of Sioux Falls; her two daughters, Paula (Craig) Meyer of Sioux Falls and Patricia (Mark) Deis of Forest VA; her sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Alverda Neary of Rapid City.
