Alice Anderson

Alice Anderson, 97, of Chester, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012 at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the West Baptist Cemetery, rural Chester. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the family present at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 29, 2012 at Kahler Funeral Home, Dell Rapids. To leave condolences please visit www.kahlerfh.com.

Alice was born on August 20, 1915, the daughter of Clyde and Faith (Gray) Alexander at Williamsburg, VA. As an infant, she moved to Sanborn, IA with her parents. At pre-school age, she moved with her family to Sioux Falls, SD. She completed the seventh grade at country school near Sioux Falls. Alice married Lester Anderson of Chester on March 4, 1937. They skipped their honeymoon and went to work building their future in farming and starting their family. The couple farmed on a farm near Chester. Lester died in 1992. Alice moved in with her son in 2006 and then moved to the assisted living center in Colton in 2009.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son, John, her sister, Fern, her brothers, Vernon and Reed, her sons-in-law, Miles Hahn and Willard Hahn, two grandsons, Terry Schmidt and Adam Anderson and two granddaughters, Mary Anderson and Joanne Hahn.

Alice was a member of the First Baptist Church, Dell Rapids.

Grateful to have shared her life are children, Deloris Rowland of Madison, Marlene (Clem) Schmidt of Madison, Darlene Hahn of Humboldt, Bill (Vi) Anderson of Chester and Carol (Ron) Arneson of Colman; her 56 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
