Matthew Coad

MatthewCoadObitMatthew Graves Coad, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at home surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, July 17 at First Reformed Church in Dell Rapids, South Dakota.  Family visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, July 16 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids, South Dakota.

Matthew Graves Coad was born in Minot, North Dakota on January 31, 1942. His parents Melvin and Ione Coad of Minot, North Dakota.  He married his beloved sweetheart Loretta Olson Coad on May 31, 1964.  They were happily married for 55 years.

Matthew was a graduate of the University of North Dakota with a Masters in high school administration. He lived in Dell Rapids, South Dakota the last 40 years.  He owned and operated the Coast to Coast Hardware Store in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. He also worked for Boy Scouts of America as a Scout executive.

Matthew loved gardening, fishing, woodworking and visiting his brother in Alaska. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and was always happiest surrounded by his children and grandchildren, whom he was so proud of everything they were involved in.  He enjoyed beating everyone at card games and winning “big” playing the Buffalo at the casino.

Surviving family members include his wife Loretta Coad, his brother Lynn (Renee) Coad and his children: Mark (Sheila) Coad, Amy (Ron) Conrad, Steven (Amy) Coad, and Jennifer (Jeremy) Amundson. Matthew was proud of his surviving grandchildren Mason (Maggie) Coad, Seth Conrad, Lucas Conrad, Anna Coad, Nicholas Coad, Christopher Coad, Benjamin Coad, and Johnathan Coad.  Matthew is preceded in death by his grandson Joseph Coad, Parents Melvin and Ione Coad, sisters Marjean Harold and Viola Watts.
