Marcella Krogstad

November 2, 2018 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

KrogstadMarcellaMarcella Ann Olsen Krogstad, age 76, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, October, 30, 2018, at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Heritage Lutheran Church in Brandon. Interment is in the Willow Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Dell Rapids. Memorials may be directed to Heritage Lutheran Church in Dell Rapids, Willow Creek Lutheran Cemetery, or the Children’s Inn.

Marcella was born March 2, 1942 to George Olsen and Hannah Nelson Olsen of Trent, SD.  She was baptized in Trent Baptist Church on June 27, 1954. She grew up on a farm west of Trent.  She attended country school for a few years, then attended Trent High School and graduated in 1961. After high school she worked in Dell Rapids at Peterson’s Drug Store.  This is where her flashing smile caught the eye of Adrian Krogstad. They were married August 14, 1964 and they worked a dairy farm west of Dell Rapids. Together they established Ka-Mar Holsteins, continued the legacy on the land, and expanded the dairy operation.

They raised four children on that there farm.  Gail Opoien (Tom) of Tea, SD; Lowell Krogstad (Becca) of Evan, MN; John Krogstad (Allison) of Pella, IA; Paul Krogstad (Sarah) of Corsica, SD.  And enjoyed her twelve grandchildren.

She enjoyed crocheting (and ripping), reading, teasing, mowing, dogs, cats, baking bread and chocolate chip cookies for the arrival of grandchildren, and helping Adrian on the farm.  Her first farm duty was sitting on the milk cans while Adrian milked the cows.

She was preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by her husband Adrian, sister Edith Olsen Omanson, her four children and in-laws, twelve grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

As she was heading off to surgery a nurse commented that she had a lot of people around who loved her and she said, “especially that one” as she pointed to Adrian.  And then she said, “It’s in God’s hands.”
