Monte Martell

Martell, Monte obit photoMonte Ralph Martell, 64, of Sioux Falls passed away peacefully Sunday, October 7, 2018 at his home. Memorial visitation will be at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids, SD on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. A Celebration of Monte’s life will be at 5:00 PM followed by fellowship and refreshments at Monkey’s Bar and Grill in Dell Rapids.

Monte was born November 25, 1953 to parents, LeMoyne & Marcene (Vietor) Martell.  He attended Lincoln High School, graduating in 1972. He then started working at John Morrell and Company. He married Shirley Fox on July 28, 1973.  Most of their married life they lived near Renner where they raised their three children, Matt and twins, Andy & Angie.

In 1999 he began working as Vice – President of the Union Local 304A. After retiring in 2008, he opened Monkey’s Bar & Grill in Dell Rapids which is known for Monte’s WORLD FAMOUS MONKEY BALLS.

Monte enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, gambling, football, and his afternoon beers. He is well known for giving nicknames, collecting, saying crazy quotes, and his unique sense of humor.

Monte is survived by his wife, Shirley, sons, Matt and Andy (Amber) and his daughter, Angie; grandchildren, Jade (16), Riley (10) and Reagan (8); sister, Jeannie (Greg) Ammon and many friends and family. He is preceded in death by his parents, LeMoyne and Marcene Martell; brother, Leno; sister-in-law, Debbie and nephew, Wyatt Ammon.

The family would like to thank you for all your condolences and Monte would like to say…. “You smell like a goat!”
