Donna Overvaag

overvaag picDonna R. Overvaag, 87, of Dell Rapids passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Her funeral service was 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017 in Willow Creek Lutheran Church, Dell Rapids with Pastor Tom Stadem officating. Interment was in the Willow Creek Cemetery. Visitation with the family present was from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Kahler Funeral Home.

Donna Rae Scott was born on November 3, 1930 at White, SD, the daughter of Alvin and Nellie (Denison) Scott.  She grew up near White and attended country school. She attended White High School and graduated. She started working for the Brookings Hospital in 1948 and attended the nursing program at South Dakota State University for two years. She graduated from the Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She worked as an administrator at the Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Valley Springs for three years. Donna married Milton Overvaag on February 28, 1958 in Ivanhoe, MN. They made their home on a farm west of Dell Rapids. She worked at the Dell Rapids Community Hospital starting as a staff nurse and retiring in 1990 as the assistant administrator. Milton died in 1998. Donna then worked part time at Terrace Manor Nursing Home until 2000.

She was a member of Willow Creek Lutheran Church, the SD Nursing Association and the American organization of Nurse Executives.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Stanley and sister, Gloria.

Donna is survived by her daughters, Tracy (Ed) Overvaag-Akin of Houston, TX ; Shelly (Steve) Bahmuller of Apple Valley, MN; Laurie (Scott) Borshak of Apple Valley, MN and Lisa (Daniel) Scott of Willmar, MN; her eleven grandchildren; her six great-grandchildren; her sister, Thelma Pierce of Haslet, TX and her extended family and many friends.
