Dennis L. Whipkey, 69, a retired farmer from Trent, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 in the Trent Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Trent Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon on Friday, April 21, 2017 at Kahler Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. On-line condolences may be left at the Kahler Funeral Home website.
Dennis was born on September 3, 1947 in Sioux Falls. He grew up and attended school in Trent, graduating in 1965. He was an avid railroad enthusiast and loved to watch and read about trains. He was very knowledgeable about trains. He farmed west of Trent until he retired in 2014 due to declining health. He continued to live on the farm until the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vinson and Frances Whipkey; an infant brother and his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Whipkey.
He is survived by his brothers, Ron (Marlene) of Sac City, IA, Loren (Jeanie) of Farmington, MN and Allen (Bernadette) of Northfield, MN; his six nieces and nephews, Terri, Troy, Brian, Lisa, Lindsay and Erin and his many cousins and friends.
