Mabel Ann Heinemann, 101, of Flandreau, SD, formerly of Brookings, SD, passed away Friday, June 19, 2015 at Riverview Manor, Flandreau, SD. Mass of Christian Burial has been set for 10:30am Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Brookings, SD. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Monday, June 22, 2015 with a 7:00pm Liturgical Wake Service and a Rosary to follow, at Rude’s Funeral Home, Brookings. Burial will take place at 1:30pm, Tuesday, at the Ss. Simon & Jude Cemetery in Flandreau, SD. Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Mabel Ann Dubbelde was born March 10, 1914 in Valley Springs, SD, the daughter of Peter and Minnie (Schreurs) Dubbelde. Mabel grew up on a farm near Garretson, SD and received her education at Palisades Country School near Garretson, SD. She was united in marriage to Ralph Heinemann on April 14, 1931 at Garretson, SD. Together they raised their seven children on a farm northwest of Flandreau. In 1970, she moved into Flandreau, SD. She was employed at the Flandreau Hospital and Riverview Manor as a Nurses Aid and also worked as a care giver for several families. Ralph died January 6, 2003. Mabel had lived with her son, Larry, in Brookings since 1992 before moving into Riverview Manor, in Flandreau, SD in 2012.
She was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Parish, the Catholic Daughters, the Hospital Auxiliary, the Catholic Guild, Cursillo, the Senior Citizens, 4-H Leader of Happy Youngsters 4-H Club and the Sioux River Sue Extension Club. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, painting, traveling, reading, making Rosaries and especially spending time with family and friends.
Mabel is survived by her children, LaVonne Headrick of Flandreau, SD, Beverly (Ronald) Minor of Flandreau, SD, Marcene (Clarence Whipple) Rachael of St. Michael, MN, Dr. Marshann (David) Snyder of Fairfax, VA, Leonard (Lynelle) Heinemann of Dell Rapids, SD, Larry Heinemann of Brookings, SD, Dr. Leslie (Libby) Heinemann of Flandreau, SD; 20 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; 35 great great grandchildren; one sister, Irene Froseth of Garretson, SD; one brother, Rodney (Delene) Dubbelde of Sherman, SD and special friends Pieter and Wietske Numan and family from the Netherlands.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Gertrude and Mary, four brothers, Frank, Joe, Theodore and Harold and one son-in-law, Richard Headrick.
