Edith Arlene Perault, 88, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at the Kadoka Nursing Home
Edith Arlene Bennett was born Oct. 30, 1925, to Fred M. and Ida L. (Schulz) Bennett. She attended grade school at Brady School in rural Jackson County, and graduated from Philip High School in 1943. She obtained a teaching certificate at Springfield College.
Edith taught school in rural Haakon County. She then moved to Kadoka and worked at the rationing office in Kadoka during WWII, where items such as tires, gasoline, sugar, flour and other items were rationed.
On March 29, 1946, Edith was married to George W. Headlee. They had two sons and two daughters. They resided south of Interior at Headlee Ranch. She worked alongside her husband in operation of the ranch. George passed away on March 14, 1966. Edith and the younger children moved to Kadoka in the fall of 1966, and Dennis returned to college.
While in Kadoka, Edith worked at Hogen’s Hardware and the Belvidere State Bank – Kadoka. She learned to bowl, and enjoyed bowling very much. During these years, Edith boarded students from surrounding rural areas that were attending high school in Kadoka.
On April 29, 1975, Edith was married to Charles O. Perault. They resided on the Perault Ranch south of Stamford on the White River. She again assisted in the operation of the ranch. Edith enjoyed bird watching and having coffee with family and friends. Charles passed away on March 15, 2007. Edith moved to the Gateway Apartments in Kadoka that spring, and was a resident of the Kadoka Care Center since the spring of 2013.
She is survived by her children, Dennis (Melody) Headlee, Pleasant Hill, IA, Vicki Wilson, Kadoka, William (Norma) Headlee, Belvidere, and Mary Knight, Sherwood, AR; 10 grandchildren, Michelle (Randy) Ford, Asheboro, NC, Jason (Val) Headlee, Sioux Falls, Robert (Hilary) Headlee, Ventura, CA, Reagan (Terry) Ison, Fort Worth, TX, Willard (Jennifer) Wilson, Eastover, SC, Anora (Brian) Henderson, Hamill, Corale (Dan) Dorn, Dell Rapids, Monica (John) Dorn, Hendricks, MN, William (Jennifer) Headlee, Ames, IA, and Donella Headlee, Sioux Falls; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Edith was preceded in death by her brothers, Magnus, Harvey, Orville, and Donald Bennett; and her sisters, Gladys Olson and Marjorie Hosek.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka, with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will be at the Kadoka Cemetery.
